City of Atlanta Restarts Adopt-a-Stream Program

The Adopt-a-Stream program encourages citizen volunteers to help monitor and protect water quality in our streams. Volunteers are trained to collect water quality samples to record a variety of chemical, physical, and biological parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, bacteria levels and aquatic insect population.

Adopting and monitoring a local stream is a great way to connect to your community, learn more about water quality issues facing Atlanta, and collect important baseline data on your stream's health.

DWM will be conducting free volunteer training work- shops starting this spring and will be able to loan out limited amounts of sampling equipment to registered groups. For more information on how to get involved, contact Andrew Walter at awalter@atlantaga.gov or 404-546-1253.
