Aggressive Schedule Makes Community Happy With Pipe Repair Work

Community concern over traffic detouring onto small neighborhood streets prompted Watershed crews to work an aggressive schedule to complete an extensive repair to a 48-inch stormwater pipe that shut down a portion of Collier Road between Howell Mill Road and Defoor Avenue. The damaged pipe was undercutting Collier Road and likely would have led to a collapse of the road.

A repair involving replacement of about 80 feet of pipe would normally take from 30 to 45 days, but because of traffic issues in the nearby neighborhood, crews took an extremely aggressive approach and completed their work in five days.

The Department of Public Works also expedited the repaving of the road, ensuring that the entire repair took just a week.
