City Fights FOG (Fats, Oils and Grease) in Pipes

Keeping FOG out of the City's sanitary sewer pipes is a major function of DWM's Bureau of Watershed Protection. If not properly removed, grease can build up in pipes, causing clogs and sewer backups. From January 1 -- June 30, DWM:

- Conducted 3,227 inspections of the City's food service establishments; as a result of these inspections, 2,418,029 gallons of grease were kept out of the City's pipes
- Issued 69 violation notices to establishments with dirty grease traps
- Permitted 125 new food service establishments
