Mayor Kasim Reed Addresses City’s Water Customers

As Mayor of Atlanta, I am essentially an elected steward of the City’s many services. Water and sewer are two vital services that I now have the responsibility of overseeing, through the diligent, day-to-day management of Commissioner Robert Hunter and his staff of well-trained, committed employees in the Department of Watershed Management.

Water and sewer are services, but they are also requirements for life itself. As such, we must make sure that all Atlantans – regardless of income – have access to them. To assist those who need help, I commit to working with DWM to make sure that all who qualify for the Senior Citizen’s Discount receive it. I also applaud DWM’s creation of the Care & Conserve Program, which extends financial assistance to qualified customers who are having trouble paying their water bills.

As DWM continues to fulfill its Consent Decree obligations through sewer and water line improvements, and to improve its customer service to water users, I will lend my support to help the Department continue to meet the water/sewer needs of private citizens, businesses and organizations throughout the City.

Developing a culture of high performance and excellent customer service across the board is a central goal of my administration. I look forward to working with all the City’s employees and with all of you over the next four years.
