DWM Pursues McDaniel Branch Stream Restoration
DWM's Bureau of Watershed Protection has partnered with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build two constructed wetlands on a City-owned Greenway property near Arthur Langford Park in the McDaniel Branch Subwatershed. The wetlands will provide water quality treatment and stormwater control for 197 acres in southeast Atlanta. The Army Corps of Engineers is providing funding for the project; DWM will provide the technical expertise to create the wetlands.
In a related project, the Bureau of Watershed Protection has also completed a plan to rehabilitate a 1,050-foot segment of McDaniel Branch. This stream segment begins just downstream of I-75 and is in need of streambank stabilization. DWM plans to incorporate natural streambank restoration techniques that will enhance both the vegetative and aquatic habitats in and along the stream. This project will be funded by a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.
