The MOST- What is it and How is it Used?

The Municipal Option Sales Tax (MOST) is a one-cent sales tax applied to most products purchased within City limits. Revenues generated by the MOST are used to help fund improvements to the City's water and sewer infrastructure.

Viewed another way, the MOST ensures that everyone who uses the City's water/sewer infrastructure -- residents and visitors alike -- helps pay for it.

Atlantans showed their support for the MOST by voting to reauthorize it in February 2008 for four additional years, through February 2012. It can be reau thorized for another four years if voters approve. The MOST supplies more than a quarter of DWM's operating budget. The sales tax rate within the City is 8 percent, which includes the 1-cent MOST.
