Earth Day is Everyday
Consider making an Earth Day resolution that extends through the year. Why not take steps to conserve and protect water? Here are some things you can do:
1) Install low-flow shower-heads and faucet aerators on the plumbing fixtures at your home. Water conservation kits are available at all Atlanta fire stations; the kits include low-flow shower-heads, faucet aerators and leak detection tablets for determining if you have a toilet leak.
2) Build or buy a rain barrel and begin harvesting rainwater for outdoor watering needs.
3) Replace an older toilet with a water-saving, ultra-low-flow model (see low-flow toilet rebate article).
4) Begin composting your fruit and vegetables scraps and coffee and tea grounds. Composting keeps a significant amount of waste out of landfills and produces a wonderful soil amendment you can use in your backyard garden.
