George D. Barnes, Deputy Commissioner

George Barnes is Deputy Commissioner of the Bureau of Engineering Services, with responsibility for the Department’s completion of more than $2 billion in wastewater system improvements under the Consent Decree programs, as well as design and construction management services, technology and capital support.

Mr. Barnes previously served the City for 20 years as Director of the Bureau of Pollution Control (now Wastewater Services), with responsibility for planning, design, construction and operation of Atlanta's wastewater treatment and CSO control program. Mr. Barnes has 14 years' experience in consulting engineering in water and wastewater and four years experience with the Georgia Water Quality Control Board (now EPD).
