Understanding Your Water and Sewer Rates
In 2003, the Atlanta City Council approved a five-year program of water and sewer rate increases to ensure maintenance of the current water and wastewater systems and to fund Clean Water Atlanta program improvements. In July 2004, voter support of the one-cent Municipal Option Sales Tax allowed the City to roll back those rate increases. Without the revenue from the sales tax, the City would have had to increase rates more than 50 percent in 2008. With those revenues, that increase will be about 10 percent. Click here for more information.
The sales tax is up for voter reauthorization in February 2008.
These rate increases ensure the continued success of Clean Water Atlanta program by providing adequate funding to allow the City to meet its legal and environmental clean water obligations. The success of Clean Water Atlanta lays the foundation for the economic rejuvenation of our City and protects our water resources for future generations.
