Kids Corner for Education
The
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been aggressively promoting
environmental education for the last decade. According to EPA, "Environmental
Education (EE) increases public awareness and knowledge of environmental
issues and challenges. Through EE, people gain an understanding of how
their individual actions affect the environment, acquire skills that they
can use to weigh various sides of issues, and become better equipped to
make informed decisions. EE also gives people a deeper understanding of
the environment, inspiring them to take personal responsibility for its
preservation and restoration."
The
Department of Watershed Management views environmental education as an
integral part of our service delivery, one that benefits both the Department
and our customers. Our Environmental Education program is designed to
educate our customers and ratepayers in ways that help them to understand
how Atlanta's water resource utility operates and how their money is used;
show them how to save money (through water conservation and pollution
prevention training); and teach them to be better stewards of the environment.
Our work with children is designed to train the next generation of environmental
stewards.
The Department's
Environmental Education program operates as an entity under the Communications
and Public Outreach Group and engages in a variety of activities throughout
