Facilities
North Avenue CSOThe North Avenue CSO Facility is located at 1120 North Avenue, NW on a large parcel of City property that also houses the Streets and Drainage and Solid Waste Maintenance Division offices, maintenance shops, and vehicle storage. This facility is isolated from residential areas. Constructed in 1994, the North Avenue CSO Facility serves a West Area combined sewershed of approximately 1,600 acres and has a maximum overflow capacity of 2,600 million gallons per day (mgd). Dry weather flow is routed via a 42-inch interceptor to the R.M. Clayton WRC or Utoy Creek WRC for treatment and wet weather flow that exceeds the capacity of the interceptor is routed through the CSO facility, where it is treated and released to a 200-yard concrete culvert for ultimate discharge to a tributary of Proctor Creek. Existing treatment consists of coarse screening, fine screening, and disinfection by sodium hypochlorite. The sodium hypochlorite injection occurs upstream of the North Avenue CSO Facility to provide proper disinfection and minimized chlorine residual prior to discharge to a tributary of Proctor Creek. The injection point also assures that all CSO, both screened and unscreened (bypassed), is disinfected |
