Chattahoochee River Intake
The City currently has a raw
water withdrawal permit of 180 million
gallons per day (mgd) from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources,
Environmental
Protection Division (EPD). Water from the Chattahoochee River Intake
enters and flows by gravity to the Chattahoochee Raw Water Pumping Station.
This pump
station was constructed to replace the old steam station. Water is screened
and chemicals are
applied to it before it leaves the intake. The water is sent from the
intake to the Chattahoochee
WTP by the Raw Water Pumping Facility. The Chattahoochee Raw Water Pumping
Station was completed in 1994 and is rated at 220 million
gallons per day (mgd). The pump station is totally electric and is manually operated.
It is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It consists of five high service
pumps that send water to the Hemphill Reservoirs and four low service pumps that
send water to the Chattahoochee Water Treatment Plant (WTP) on demand.
