Sanford Property
The Sanford property is a vacant and undeveloped parcel located in a residential area on Landrum Drive, southwest of the Alfred Tup Holmes Golf Course in southwest Atlanta. Although less than 1 acre was purchased in this acquisition, the Sanford property contributes to the growing amount of protected stream footage in this segment of South Utoy Creek. The greenway is a stream buffer that filters sediments and pollutants, such as fertilizers and pesticides, which would otherwise cause the water to appear cloudy. The improvement of water clarity allows sunlight to penetrate the water surface, and reach aquatic plants and animals that need sunlight for photosynthesis. Participation in the Greenway Acquisition Project ensures that these buffers are protected, which is essential to maintaining the ecological integrity of the aquatic system
