Home Apply For A Toilet Rebate

Apply For A Toilet Rebate

Since the Metro Atlanta toilet rebate program began in 2008, 125,000 old, inefficient toilets have been replaced with low-flow WaterSense-labeled models. This has resulted in a savings of nearly 2.4 million gallons of water a day.

There is a limit of two (2) toilet rebates per property (including previous owners). To qualify for a rebate, you must purchase a WaterSense labeled Ultra High Efficient (UHET) toilet using 1.1 gpf or less. Please visit the WaterSense Product Search for approved toilet models.

This is an important notice about the Single-Family Toilet Rebate Program.

As of July 1, 2021, the rebate structure has changed. Only WaterSense labeled toilets using 1.1 gpf or less will be eligible for the $75 rebate. Toilets using 1.28 gpf are no longer eligible.

Toilet rebate for Single Family Residential

Eligibility Requirements
Customers must meet the following qualifications to receive a toilet rebate:

• Have an individual residential account with a participating water provider in the Metro Water District and be up to date on your billing payments.
• Own or rent a single-family residential home built in 1993 or earlier (this will be verified).
• Purchase an approved toilet after September 28, 2007 to replace an older toilet using greater than 1.6 gallons per flush (gpf).
• Only approved WaterSense Ultra High Efficient (UHET) labeled toilets using 1.1 gpf or less will qualify for a rebate.
• There is a limit of two (2) toilet rebates per property (including previous owners).
• Agree to an installation verification visit to ensure your efficient toilets have been installed.

Note: Rebates are limited and will be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Multifamily Toilet Rebate Program

The City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management extends its high-efficiency toilet rebate to multifamily customers. Apartment and condominium communities that are City of Atlanta water customers may qualify if the following criteria are met:
• Property owner/manager agrees to a pre-installation toilet inspection by DWM
• The property was built prior to 1993
• Existing toilets use more than 1.6 gallons per flush
• Property owner/manager is up-to-date on water bill payments
• Property owner/manager has a water and sewer account with DWM
• Property owner/manager purchases all fixtures and arranges for/pays for
installation
• Property owner/manager provides proof of purchase for 1.28 gpf or less,
WaterSense replacement toilets
• Property owner/manager agrees to transport used porcelain toilets to one of three
porcelain recyclers in the Atlanta area (documentation from recycler required)
• Property owner/manager agrees to a post-installation verification site visit by
DWM
• Property owner/manager completes a multifamily toilet rebate application (which
includes all documentation listed above)
If the above criteria are met, the property owner/manager will receive a $100 rebate for each toilet replaced with a 1.28 gallon-per-flush or less EPA WaterSense toilet. Look for the WaterSense label.
Rebates will be applied to the water account(s) for the property in question. Rebate funds are guaranteed for six months from the date of the pre-installation inspection.
For more information about the Multifamily Toilet Rebate Program, contact McKenna Magill, mmagill@atlantaga.gov.

Guidelines for Condo Owners

• To the City of Atlanta, condominiums are Multifamily Properties.
• Condos may qualify for the City of Atlanta Multifamily Toilet Rebate Program, but not for the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District rebate program.
• To participate in the City of Atlanta Multifamily Toilet Rebate Program, condo owners must meet the following requirements:
1. Individual condo owners may not apply for the Multifamily Toilet Rebate. The Condo Owner’s Association must coordinate the property’s involvement.
2. Condo Owners’ Associations must get commitments from at least 20 percent of condo owners within the property to participate in the Multifamily Toilet Rebate Program
3. The Condo community must be a City of Atlanta water customer in good standing
4. The property was built prior to 1993
* To receive the Multifamily Toilet Rebate, participants must complete the following:
• Pre-installation inspection to verify existing toilets use more than 1.6 gallons per flush (gpf)
• Mandatory recycling of old toilets at Patterson Industries (Mableton), Stephens MDS (College Park), or Metro Green (Doraville). Proof of recycling from one of these three businesses is required
• Replacement toilets must use 1.28 gpf or less and be WaterSense-certified
• Post-installation inspection of units to verify retrofit has occurred
• Documentation of recycling, copies of invoices/receipts for replacement toilets, a
completed rebate application, and a copy of the property’s water account bill shall be
provided
• When all of the above has been done, DWM staff will apply the Multifamily Toilet
Rebate: $100 per qualifying toilet directly to the property’s water account
***The Condo Owners’ Association is responsible for distributing rebate funding to condo owners who participate in the Rebate program.***
