Plant Tour During Earth Day 2017

Our offices are currently closed to the public. To align with the City’s current operating environment as the result of the global pandemic. We are not conducting in person tours at this time. We are conducting virtual tours. Please sign-up below!

Hemphill Water Treatment Plant

The DWM Hemphill Water Treatment Center tour is a walking, guided experience through one of the oldest infrastructure buildings in the City of Atlanta. The central focus of the historical and educational tour is the water treatment process. Throughout the tour, you will hear our unique story, get a behind-the-scenes view firsthand the path that water travels through our facility before it is delivered to your faucets and interact with our most valuable resource — our team members.

Tour Standard Operating Procedures

RSVPs are not honored if late, all information must be submitted by 48 hours prior to the tour and are based on availability.

Tour groups are comprised of a minimum of ten people. Larger groups may be split into groups of 20 to 25. The tour schedule and options are not interchangeable and are subject to change.

Tour groups must be fully registered on our website to receive admittance onto the DWM Hemphill Water Treatment Facility grounds. Our tour is available for adults and children ages ____ and older.


Attire

The DWM Hemphill Water Treatment Center tour requires twenty to thirty minutes of walking, so please wear comfortable shoes.

These three topics are at the core of the DWM Hemphill Water Treatment Center tour experience. During the tour, students will be engaged by practical ways they can help conserve water, learn the history of water in the city of Atlanta (hint: communal troughs of water were pulled by horse drawn carriages downPeachtree St.), and get up-close and personal with the technological innovations that ensure our water remains safe and accessible.

Schedule & Arrival

Tour times begin promptly at their scheduled start time. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your tour time to allow for check-in at the Hemphill Water Treatment Facility security entrance.
Please be advised that we are unable to provide early admittance or waiting accommodations more than 15 minutes prior to the tour. If you arrive after the start of your tour time, your tour will be modified according to the tour schedule.
