Watershed Management to Host Media Tour of Hemphill Drinking Water Operations

 

ATLANTA (May 8, 2017) – Currently, the City of Atlanta provides drinking water to approximately 1.3 million people each day. Built in 1892, the Hemphill Water Treatment Plant (WTP) provides drinking water to more than 65 percent of the City of Atlanta.  The Hemphill WTP is a manually operated and is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

In celebration of National Drinking Water Week, the Department of Watershed Management is offering local media outlets with a behind-the-scenes look into the City of Atlanta’s drinking water treatment process. On the tour, you will have the opportunity to interview Hemphill WTP staff and capture b-roll of various treatment processes including the water quality laboratory.
