Utoy Creek Water Reclamation Center Named Facility of the Year

Atlanta – The City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management’s (DWM) Utoy Water Reclamation Center (WRC) was selected as the 2021 Water Reclamation Facility of the Year Award in the category of Advanced Treatment of 10 million gallons daily (MGD).

The Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) presented the award to DWM officials and Utoy Creek WRC staff during a ceremony at the facility. Utoy Creek WRC was recently honored with a Gold Award from GAWP for having no permit violations in the 2020 calendar year for Maximum Containment Levels (MCLs) and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination (NPDES), or pretreatment violations.

“This is a major achievement for the City of Atlanta, the Department, and especially the staff here at Utoy Creek,” said DWM Commissioner Mikita Browning. They have exceeded expectations in spite of the challenges posed by the pandemic, and I am honored GAWP recognizes the hard work and resiliency of the staff.”

Established in 1932, GAWP provides education and training on drinking water and wastewater treatment, water resources and stormwater management, water conservation, utility management and customer service, and the broad realm of activities required to responsibly manage Georgia water resources.
