Department of Watershed Management to Conduct Sewer System Evaluation

What: The Department of Watershed Management with conduct smoke tests of the sewer system as part of the system evaluation

Where: Affected streets during the system evaluation include:

• 1061 W. Marietta Street NW
• 1076 Church Street NW
• 841 W. Marietta Street NW
• 1284 Joseph E. Boone Blvd NW
• 1314 Pierce Avenue NW

When: Tuesday, August 27, 2019, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Comments: The Department Watershed Management contractors will perform sewer system smoke tests throughout the City to locate defects and improve the sanitary sewer services. Work is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27, 2019, weather permitting. The location sites include 1061 W. Marietta Street NW, 1076 Church Street NW, 841 W. Marietta Street NW, Joseph E. Boone Blvd NW, and 1314 Pierce Avenue NW.

Smoke testing process: Smoke testing only takes a few hours, and forces smoke filled air into the sanitary sewer system. The smoke is non-toxic, odorless, and fills the sewer line and only escapes to the surface if there are any defects in the sanitary sewer system that need repair.
