NEWS RELEASE

Greg Eyerly Confirmed as New Commissioner of Department of Watershed Management

ATLANTA –The Atlanta City Council today confirmed Greg Eyerly as the sixth Commissioner of the Department of Watershed Management (DWM). Mayor Andre Dickens previously selected Commissioner Eyerly, who assumed his new role on April 1, 2025.

A respected public servant with a strong commitment to the management, use, and protection of water-based infrastructure, Commissioner Eyerly joins Atlanta from his recent position as the Director for the City of Houston’s Department Water Division.

DWM oversees the City’s drinking water and wastewater systems and is currently managing the $4 billion Clean Water Atlanta Program. This comprehensive overhaul of Atlanta’s water and sewer infrastructure is a result of two federal consent decrees. Work on the first decree, addressing the combined sewer system, was completed in 2007. The second amendment to the first amended consent decree (Sanitary Sewer Overflow – SSO) is slated for completion in 2027.

“We are focused on achieving long-term water security for the greater Atlanta area, which includes ensuring consistently safe and reliable drinking water, effectively treating and reclaiming wastewater to meet all state and federal standards and mitigating the impacts of flooding and treating stormwater runoff,” stated Commissioner Eyerly. “A key priority is also completing the consent decree related to immediate needs at our water reclamation and treatment plants, while also promoting public awareness about the vital importance of water to our community.”
