DWM Completes First Phase of Electrical Repairs at Hemphill Water Treatment Plant

The Department of Watershed Management (DWM) successfully completed the first of several planned repairs to the emergency generators at the Hemphill Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.

The work consisted of isolating two 4,160-volt outdoor switchgear sections by removing the power and making it safe for personnel to work and installing temporary load banks. This will allow 10 back-up generators to be fully tested over a four to six-week period without any negative impact to the Hemphill Water Treatment Plant electrical system.

Additional repairs and upgrades to the on-site backup emergency generator system are scheduled to be completed by December 2020.

We appreciate having the opportunity to share our continued efforts to improve the infrastructure that enable us to deliver reliable, clean and safe drinking water to the City of Atlanta and neighboring jurisdictions that rely on this vital resource..
