NEWS RELEASE

Emergency Repair Work at the Hemphill Electrical Pump Station

Atlanta – The Department of Watershed Management (DWM) will perform emergency maintenance and electrical work at the Hemphill Electrical Pump Station on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. This work may result in all of the discharge flow being directed to the westside of the Pumping Station. DWM will take the appropriate measures to ensure that the distribution system is not impacted. Residents should not experience an interruption of water service while the work at the Hemphill Water Complex is being conducted. The purpose of the emergency maintenance and electrical work is to:

  •  Perform testing and service on the existing condition of the breakers on the Hemphill substation Switchgear;
  •  Ensure plant performance is maintained in accordance with DWM/Environmental Protection Division parameters;
  •  Avoid single points of power failures;
  •  Replace obsolete breakers and perform testing on feed cabling; and
  •  Perform repairs, if necessary, to prevent potential power outages.

We appreciate your patience as we work to continue reliable delivery of clean and safe drinking water to the City and neighboring jurisdictions that depend upon this vital resource.
